AWF Organizes Stakeholders Consultation Workshop on Operational Review and Institutional Assessment in Pretoria

The African water Facility (AWF) organized a workshop in Pretoria, South Africa, from April 26-27, 2010, on operations review and institutional assessment of the AWF. The workshop's objective was to enable key stakeholders and partners contribute to AWF's ongoing Effectiveness Assessment which started in November 2009 and is being undertaken by France's Hydroconseil in association with UK's WEDC. The workshop was attended by members of the Technical Advisory Committee of the African Ministers Council on Water (AMCOW TAC), civil society organizations, UN-Water Africa, a prepresentative of AWF donors and beneficiaries. AWF Officer-in charge, Sering Jallow, and AMCOW-TAC chair, Reginald Tekateka, co-chaired the meetings and led the review work. The workshop was successfully concluded with the adoption of a set of inputs that provide stakeholders' perspectives for the effectiveness assessment report.

The African Water Facility at the Stockholm Water Week

 A delegation of the African Water Facility is participating in the Stockholm Water Week which started on 16 August and will end on 22 August. Mr. Peter Akari, Chief Water Policy Officer, and Ms. Malinne Blomberg, Principal Financial Management Officer, are representing the Facility at this important event.

The African Development Bank's President will swear in on 1/01/2010 for a second term

The African Development Bank's President, Mr. Donald Kaberuka, was reelected by acclamation by the Board of Governors in May 2010 during the Bank's Annual Meetings in Abidjan, Cote d'Ivoire. The swearing-in ceremony of his second term will take place in Tunis (Tunisia) at the Ramada Hotel. This event will bring together Bank staff, political leaders, Experts from different sectors, members of the press, etc.

A farewell to an outstanding colleague

On 22 July 2010, the African Development Bank's Water and Sanitation Department and the African Water Facility organized a send-off ceremony in honor of Mr. Tefera Woudeneh, a Chief Water Operations Officer who is retiring after ten years of great service and accomplishments.

The African Water Facility's Governing Council to hold an extraordinary meeting on 29 July in Cape Town, South Africa

As the Facility's Effectiveness Assessment is nearing completion, the Effectiveness Assessment Committee has proposed that an extraordinary meeting of the Governing Council  (GC) takes place to review and seek the GC's approval of the assessment report. This meeting will take place on 29 July in Cape Town, South Africa.

An African Water Facility grant approved to finance an original project: "Design for Reuse-Harvesting the value of effluent and nutrients for sustaining the operation of sanitation facilities

The African Water Facility (AWF) has approved a €498,000 grant to the Water Resources Commission in Ghana.

The grant will finance a project which will introduce a market and end-user oriented planning approach that simultaneously closes the water and nutrient loops called "Design for Reuse" in order to effectively capture the economic value of wasterwater and faecal sludge to help finance, operate and maintain treatment facilities.

The African Water Facility's Effectiveness Assessment Committee meets in Tunis

On 18 June 2010, the AWF's Effectiveness Assessment Committee will meet to review and discuss the report of an AWF Effectiveness Assessment that started since November 2009 and is at a critical stage. The Committee was established by the Governing Council of the Facility to review and advise it on the work of the effectiveness assessment.

The AWF organizes a farewell ceremony for a dedicated staff

On Friday 11 June 2010, the African Water Facility and OWAS staff members paid a tribute to Yvan kedaj, Monitoring and Evaluation Specialist, who is leaving the Facility after four years of remarquable contributions.
