AMCOW

AMCOW stands for the "African Ministers' Council on Water". Its membership presently consists of all African Ministers with responsibility for water resources.

AMCOW was formally launched in Abuja, Nigeria on April 30, 2002, under the Chairmanship of H.E. Shehu Shagari, Minister of Water Resources of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

The mission of AMCOW is to provide political leadership, policy direction and advocacy in the provision, use and management of water resources for sustainable social and economic development and maintenance of African ecosystems and strengthen intergovernmental cooperation to address the water and sanitation issues in Africa.

One of the major achievements of AMCOW is the establishment of the African Water Facility (AWF) which is hosted and managed by the African Development Bank
