The African Water Facility (AWF) grants 1.3 million Euros to Cameroon to finance a study on the mobilization and use of rainwater in the northern part of the country. The project will address the concerns of two million inhabitants of the region: food security, employment, increased revenue, effects of climate change…

October 2006 - The Niger Basin Authority (NBA) received a € 1,2 million grant to collect reliable, quality hydrological data and information on the Niger River Basin for more effective management by NBA and Member Countries of the water resources. This project is particularly important to improve planning and development activities.

December 2006 - The Government of Senegal received a €935,000 grant to support the preparation of a Master Plan for the improvement of sanitation services in different districts of Zinguichor, solve the environmental issues generated by wastewater management, eradicate the impacts of severe floods created by anarchic rains, and advocate in favor of new technologies for water supply and sanitation.

Background: In 2012 Sierra Leone experienced a rather severe outbreak of cholera, affecting over 5,000 people with 63 deaths in the Western Area from January to August 2012. The outbreak brought into sharp focus the magnitude of the task at hand of making safe clean water accessible to the people.

December 2006 -The African Network of Basin Organisations (ANBO) received a €439,000 grant to consolidate and build its institutional capacity and operations, strengthen its interaction with other river basin organisations, with a view to increasing the number of basin members, creating new basin organisations and building the capacities of the existing ones. The project also seeks to help ANBO develop lasting relations with AMCOW, external support agencies, and other partners.

Background: The City of Windhoek (CoW) is faced with steady demographie growth, and growing informai settlements. The Municipality, which encompasses 326,000 inhabitants, is located in a semi­ arid area  with annual  rainfall averaging  370mm only and scarce surface  water and  groundwater resources. Windhoek's main water resource is transferred over several hundreds of kilometres from the Northern part of Namibia. Climate change is anticipated to result in higher temperatures, increased evaporation, and rainfall intensity across Namibia.

January 2007 -The Inter-Governmental Authority for Development (IGAD) received a €1.8 million grant to implement and operate an Integrated Transboundary Water Resources Management process. The project aims at enhancing regional cooperation and water resource governance capacities to address water related development problems at national and sub-regional level. It will also contribute to build regional capacity to provide hydrological data and information services and establish mechanisms of cooperation among the IGAD member countries for water resources management.

Contexte : Depuis 2011, le Gouvernement de Côte d’Ivoire a pris un certain nombre de mesures institutionnelles et règlementaires en faveur de la promotion du secteur de l’assainissement renforcées dans le PND 2016-2020.

May 2007 - The Network for Water and Sanitation, Uganda (NETWAS-U) received a €450,000 grant to conduct education, sensitization activities to promote roof rainwater harvesting (RWH) to provide relief to the most water stressed parts of the country through the implementation of this low cost solution. The system will provide safe water to the households for a period that will extend beyond the dry spells with aim to secure water supply all year round.
