Contexte et Origine du Projet :L’économie du Burkina Faso repose sur le secteur agro-sylvo-pastoral qui contribue fortement au PIB national et occupe plus de 90% de la population active. Cependant, ce secteur est soumis régulièrement aux effets de la variabilité et du changement climatique tels que les sécheresses et les inondations qui affectent négativement la performance de l’économie nationale limitant ainsi le développement socio-économique du pays.

MBABANE MANZINI CORRIDOR (NONDVO) MULTIPURPOSE DAM FEASIBILITY STUDY

Project History and Background
The Government of Swaziland, Ministry of Natural Resources and Energy, Department of Water Affairs intends to assess the feasibility for the construction of a multipurpose dam, whose main objective is to store water in order to provide potable water to the two growing cities of Mbabane and Manzini. In the meantime, the stored water could also be used for irrigation and for improving the output of runoff the river hydropower plants further downstream.

July 2012 - The Kenya Rainwater Association (KRA) received € 690,000 grant to mainstream rainwater harvesting and management (RHM) in response to rural development challenges posed by climate change in drought prone regions of Kenya.

Artificial recharge of Haouz ground water aquifer

January 2009 - The Government of Morocco received a €1.9 million grant to improve the management of water resources in the Haouz basin through artificial groundwater recharge. The Haouz groundwater aquifer constitutes a strategic resource to help improve the lives of the populations living in the area.

Boosting hydropower and irrigation in Tanzania

Tanzania is expected to benefit from a boost in hydropower generation and irrigation development thanks to a new study financed by the African Water Facility (AWF). This EUR 2-million grant will help the government of Tanzania launch the pre-feasibility study of a multipurpose dam, irrigation and hydropower project in Kikonge (South West).

Roof catchment rainwater harvesting and management

May 2007 - The Network for Water and Sanitation, Uganda (NETWAS-U) received a €450,000 grant to conduct education, sensitization activities to promote roof rainwater harvesting (RWH) to provide relief to the most water stressed parts of the country through the implementation of this low cost solution. The system will provide safe water to the households for a period that will extend beyond the dry spells with aim to secure water supply all year round.
