For nearly two decades, the African Water Facility has supported African countries in improving access to water and sanitation for millions of people on the continent. This video is a short form of the Facility's anniversary documentary, which looks back on its successes and aspirations for the future.
Africa Urban Sanitation Investment Initiative (AUSII) aims to increase the scale and impact of investments in urban sanitation services in Africa, by creating an enabling environment and a variety of financing options, tailored to the needs of the recipient countries, for efficient and sustainable investments from development and commercial finance institutions.

In Africa, hundreds of millions of people live with water insecurity and lack access to basic sanitation. These challenges are amplified by population growth, climate change, inadequate infrastructure and poor management of water resources.
Through the project “Social Franchising for operation and maintenance of school sanitation facilities and demonstration of on-site faecal sludge management treatment”, the African Water Facility constructed and refurbished sanitation facilities in 302 schools in East London, South Africa, directly impacting 93,000 students, 50% of whom were girls.
