Appraisal Missions

A supervision mission for the Ruvyironza Multi-Purpose Water Resources Development Project (PRODERER) took place in Bujumbura, Burundi, from March 10 to 13, 2025. This mission, organized by the African Development Bank and the Nile Equatorial Lakes Subsidiary Action Program Coordination Unit (NELSAP-CU), aimed to reassess the original project activities and budget to ensure the preparation of critical documents such as feasibility studies, technical designs, and tender documents. These documents will support the project’s ability to mobilize downstream financing.

The project’s long-term goal is to contribute to improving the socio-economic resilience of the populations in the region by increasing water, food, and energy security. In the medium term, it seeks to enhance sustainable management of water resources, improve climate change resilience, and provide reliable water storage for agriculture and renewable energy.

The mission team, led by the project’s Task Manager Diane Arjoon, worked closely with NELSAP-CU, the Burundian Ministry of Environment, Agriculture, and Livestock (MINEAGRIE) and other stakeholders to assess and discuss the new direction of the project.

The mission resulted in the preparation of key project documents, including an updated budget, procurement plans, and implementation frameworks. These documents are crucial for the preparatory phase and ensuring that the project progresses efficiently and remains on track to meet its objectives of socio-economic development in Burundi.
