January 2009 - The Government of Morocco received a €1.9 million grant to improve the management of water resources in the Haouz basin through artificial groundwater recharge. The Haouz groundwater aquifer constitutes a strategic resource to help improve the lives of the populations living in the area. The project will strengthen the capacity of the Tensift River Basin Agency (ABHT) to develop and implement a large scale investment programme based on artificial groundwater recharge, which will in turn result in increased availability of water resources, improved water security and meeting of water demands for agricultural, domestic and industrial uses.
