Maputo, Mozambique, – The AWF announced on December 15 that is has offered a €3.4 million grant to the Government of Mozambique to conduct a feasibility study for the development of a climate adaptation project in the lower Limpopo region. This project will include building infrastructure to protect the Limpopo basin from floods and droughts and will increase food security by boosting agricultural production. Furthermore, the infrastructure to be built could lead to hydro-electric power production for the region.
The African Development Bank has announced the appointment of Mtchera Johannes Chirwa as the new Coordinator of the African Water Facility, a project preparation and technical assistance facility hosted at the African Development Bank’s Water Development and Sanitation Department.

The African Water Facility (AWF) on October 3, 2022, approved a grant of EUR 1,549,710 to improve access to Water, Sanitation and Hygiene Services (WASH), build climate change resilience, and strengthen Covid-19 recovery efforts in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso.
In 2022, the Facility has approved four projects till date – Lake Chad Basin, Togo, Mali and now Burkina Faso – to improve water and basic sanitation services in countries, and mitigate the effects of climate change.
