Marrakech, June 6-7, 2013 - The AWF along with the Agence du Bassin Hydrauliqu du Tensift (ABHT) inaugurated the infrastructure it financed to ensure the recharge of the Haouz aquifer. Over 40 people and media attended the handover meeting.
Stockholm, September 1-6, 2013 - As part of Africa Focus Day , the AWF hosted a panel discussion, in the context of Stockholm World Water Week 2013. “Cooperation and Hydro-Diplomacy: Successful Approaches to Optimize Trans-boundary Water Management” was moderated by Pr. Mike Muller, and brought together five panelists: Dr. Akissa Bahri, AWF; Ms. Jacqueline Tront, CIWA, WB; Pr. Patricia Wouters, Dundee UNESCO Centre for Water Law, Policy and Science; Dr. Ana Cascao, SIWI , Mr. Tefera Beyene, Nile Basin Initiative.
The AWF hosted a monitoring and evaluation workshop jointly with the Government of Malawi. The training welcomed over 56 participants from Burkina Faso, Chad, Ethiopia, Ghana, Lesotho, Malawi, Mali, Senegal, Togo, and Tunisia, as well as representatives of nine regional economic communities and transboundary basin organisations, many representing 15 project supported by the AWF.
Nairobi, Kenya - The African Water Facility (AWF) with the support of the African Development Bank’s (AfDB) East Africa Regional Resource Center, brought together in Nairobi in August 2014 over 40 project managers from over 15 English speaking African countries to participate in a five day project management training.
In the framework of the Stockholm Water Week conference 2014, the AWF held a panel discussion focused on the use of human waste for energy as a way to help overcome Africa's energy and water challenges.
Mr. Brian Aborgast from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, Dr. Kala Vairavamoorthy from University of South Florida and Dr. Akissa Bahri from the AWF presented various aspects of sanitation and integrated urban water management. The Honorable Minister of the Environment, Saviour Kasukuwere, chaired the session, while Mr Peter Akari, Chief Water Policy at the AWF, moderated.
In the framework of the AWF evaluation, the mission visited different schools in East London which benefited from the AWF project. The pilot site for carbonizing sludges was also visited. More information on the project could be find here
